I’m thrilled to introduce NPR’s new tech reporter, Dara Kerr, who starts with us on Jan. 9. Along with our intrepid Bobby Allyn, Dara will examine the choices tech companies make and the influence they wield over our lives.

Dara comes to NPR from The Markup, where she covered labor at tech companies. She produced gripping investigations of the risks that Uber and Lyft drivers take—and the lack of protection the tech companies provide them. Dara also reported on big tech lobbying and the spread of anti-vaccine misinformation on Facebook.

Before The Markup, Dara reported for CNET News. Her daily coverage ranged from Airbnb’s regulatory battles to self-driving cars to the proliferation of lab-grown meat. While at CNET, Dara traveled the length of the Texas-Mexico border to report on how surveillance technology

A financial technology firm has agreed to acquire financial news site The Fly for an undisclosed amount.

The deal is expected to close by the end of March.

The acquirer, TipRanks Ltd., analyzes financial data to provide market research tools for retail investors. The TipRanks Financial Accountability Engine scans and analyzes financial websites, corporate filings submitted to the SEC, and analyst research, to rank financial experts in real time.

The Fly was founded in 1998. The Fly’s strategy is to publish short-form stories consisting of only market-moving content. It uses sources such as analyst research notes, company press releases, SEC filings, newspapers, blogs, social media and trading desk sources.

Henry Foy is the new voice of “Europe Express,” the FT’s weekday newsletter  on European affairs.

Foy will continue to serve as the FT’s European diplomatic correspondent, based in Brussels. He reports on the EU’s foreign policy, relations between Brussels and other world powers, and the diplomatic intrigues between member states. Previously he was Moscow bureau chief, where he interviewed Vladimir Putin and charted his regime’s descent into repression. Foy has also been posted in Warsaw and London since joining the FT in 2013 from Reuters.

Also contributing to “Europe Express” is a cast of correspondents from the FT’s Europe network.

FT editor Roula Khalaf said: “Henry is a smart, authoritative voice for the FT on European affairs and the war in Ukraine. I’m delighted that he will be leading Europe Express this year.”

Maya has covered health care for Crain’s New York Business since 2021 and co-wrote the daily newsletter Health Pulse. She published exposés on the big business of blood banks, New York’s decades-long pattern of hospital consolidation and a secret takeover attempt at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn. Xochitl Gonzalez is joining The Atlantic’s editorial team as a staff writer, having contributed to the magazine this past year through her subscriber newsletter, Brooklyn, Everywhere. In her newsletter, which she’ll continue as a staff writer, Xochitl reflects on the many meanings of gentrification and what we stand to lose in our relentless pursuit of the American dream. Xochitl is a novelist, screenwriter, and television executive producer. She came to her writing career in her 40s; before that she worked as an event planner, a fundraiser, and a tarot-card reader, among other pursuits.

Andy Serwer, the editor in chief of Yahoo Finance, is leaving after eight years.

Serwer writes, “I also wanted to mention a few things that made me grateful during my time at Yahoo Finance — streaming Warren Buffett’s annual meeting, building out our live shows, and seeing the recognition and awards our reporters and producers garnered.
