“Marketplace” names Tam its executive editor

“Marketplace” general manager and vice president Neal Scarbrough sent out the following:

Marketplace and Friends:

I am thrilled to bring some truly good news to this space. Marketplace has a new Executive Editor. Donna Tam, who in various leadership roles over the past six years has managed our on-demand, social media and web platforms to new heights, will take over this month as our newsroom lead.

Donna will report to me and will oversee Marketplace’s reporters, editors and show staffs. She also will shepherd new content initiatives within the newsroom. Donna will begin this transition on Nov 28.

I’m really excited for Donna and for Marketplace. When she and I first discussed this role this summer, her knowledge and effectiveness across multiple fronts positioned her as the best authority on Marketplace. As other candidates emerged and faded, it became clear to me that our best approach to change is with someone who knows where to start.

As many of you have seen, Donna’s list of contributions to Marketplace is long and strong. And the diversity of her responsibilities adds up to a dynamic newsroom leader. She joined us as Digital Editor before stepping up to lead that team. She served as a project manager across the enterprise before helping to produce podcasts and developing the newsletter team. She was recruited to be Sitara Nieves’ On-Demand deputy before leading the team the past year. She has excelled across our content portfolio, including marketing and fund raising, and consistently strives to make Marketplace a better workplace.

Donna and I have a shared vision for integrating our content teams and streams, and she is eager to partner with Francesca Levy in this critical work. Donna is hyper-focused on reaching new audiences with Marketplace stories. She has demonstrated all the leadership, development (staff and content) and collaboration we seek to manage our enterprise forward.

Over the past year, I have seen what we all know: Donna Tam gets it done. Please join me in supporting her plans to elevate our journalism through better communication, innovation, teamwork and execution.

Congratulations, Donna!
